Most people drive their car on a daily basis, have you ever thought about how many times you use your brakes? Whether it’s to slow down or when you come to a complete stop, or the frustrating stop and start traffic to work.
To ensure the safety of you, your car and others around you there are a few signs to look out for that will mean you need to get your brakes checked ASAP.
A change in your car’s braking performance
If you are having to press further than usual on your brake pedal it could indicate brake pad wear.
A noise when you brake
Whether it’s a grinding or screeching noise it could mean your brake pads are wearing low and the contact with the rotor is causing a high pitched noise to alert you of an issue.
A burning smell while you’re driving
If your brakes have started to overheat you might start to smell a strong odour or even start to see smoke. This is an urgent issue and you may need repairs before you can continue to drive your vehicle.
Brake Light Warning
This is of course the most obvious, but unfortunately it may not register in all cars. If your brake light comes on you will need to get your car a brake inspection at your local Express Lube.
These are all signs that you need to pay attention to as it’s your car’s way of telling you that something may be wrong. At Express Lube we recommend a brake inspection, every 6 months. It’s a good way to ensure brake safety in your car, but that doesn’t mean you should ignore the signs your brakes need maintenance. Understanding the warning signs will help to keep you and others safe on the roads.
