Check your tyre tread and tyre pressure
Worn out and flat tyres can not only cost you money in fines and points on your licence but they are also extremely dangerous! A good tip to prepare your car for a road trip is to check them monthly.
The minimum tread depth allowed in Australia is 1.5mm however we recommend changing your tyres at 3.0mm. A great way to check the depth of your tyres is by using a coin or a tread depth gauge (which can be purchased for as little as $5). Make sure you check the depth of all your tyres including the spare tyre.
Checking tyre pressure is best done at a petrol station and you can can usually find the recommended pressure of car tyres by looking on the tyre itself or on the inside of your front door opening or even the owner’s manual.
Check your windscreen washer bottle and windscreen wipers
To ensure you and your passengers have excellent visibility on what is sure to be an awesome road trip – make sure your windscreen wiper blades are in good condition and that your windscreen washer liquid is full.
Wiper blades can be purchased for as little as $5 and washer liquid even cheaper. Even if you don’t need either of these right now – it’s a good idea to pack them in the car in the event you are far from an auto store and require them.
